Greg Tewksbury, the former vice chancellor for business and finance for the University of Michigan-Flint, has been named Assistant Director of the Institute for Social Research (ISR).
“I am delighted to welcome Greg into this important position,” said David Lam, ISR Director. “ISR will benefit enormously from Greg’s three decades of administrative and financial experience in the University of Michigan system.”
As the assistant director, Tewksbury will work closely with the ISR director and center directors to identify opportunities to achieve effective economies of scale through various administrative and financial functions that support and advance the scientific research agenda. In addition, he will oversee the ISR budget and the ISR Center for Institute Services and serve as ISR’s representative to a variety of U-M administrative and financial groups and committees. Tewksbury will take on his new role on August 1, 2016.
“The more I learn about the ISR, the more excited I am to support their research efforts and contribute to the difference that ISR is making,” said Tewksbury. “I am excited to roll up my sleeves and join David and the ISR team in this mission in any way that I can.”
He joined the University of Michigan in 1977, and over a 36-year period has held a variety of positions ranging from the director of the Office of Financial Analysis to treasurer. He was appointed vice chancellor for business and finance for the U-M Flint in 2013.
Some of his experience includes consolidation of capital plans for campuses, prioritizing project funding, working with deans and directors on financing cash flow, gifts, debt service, and debt management.
He earned a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University.
The ISR Assistant Director Search Committee was chaired by Helen Levy, research professor in the Survey Research Center. Committee members included Ted Brader, research professor in the Center for Political Studies; Mary Gutmann, assistant director of the Research Center for Group Dynamics; James McNally, associate research scientist at Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research; Derek Moss, director of ISR Human Resources; Pam Smock, research professor in the Population Studies Center; and Cathy Thibault, the SRC assistant director for administration.
